DeviantArtist Questionnaire

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 7, 2015, 1:14 AM
1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Thirteen years! Since August 04, 2002

2. What does your username mean?
Celesse was the name my mother wanted to give me, but my parents settled on Samantha instead. I thought it would be an appropriate alias when I got online.

3. Describe yourself in three words.
Cheerful, playful, dorky

4. Are you left or right handed?
Left handed.

5. What was your first deviation?
Oh, lordy...
Hangin Around by celesse

6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Anything cute.

7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Realism, because it would totally help me in my more stylized endeavors.

8. What was your first favourite?
Seems to be this:
Emiel Sketch by fallout161

9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
At the moment it seems to be a mix of cute things and rendered landscapes.

10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
There's too many amazing artists I can't pick one I'm sorry gosh

11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I've already checked off a lot of must-meets thanks to conventions, but there are a few I haven't met yet. I'd have to choose AshleyCope because she's been an inspiration to me and seems like a pretty cool person.

12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Well, most of my BFFs I met off of DA. landlotl started off as just a fellow artist that I first found through DA and we knew each other casually for a long time, but we've become super good friends over the past year. I'm happy to have her in my life <3

13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
Definitely digital, almost any Wacom tablet + Paint Tool SAI. But I have a secret love for watercolors as well.

14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Around other artists, because they never fail to inspire me in some way.

15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
It's dorky, but I remember back in 2005 DA asked the community to create pixel ornaments of themselves to put together on a giant image of Christmas trees. It was amazing to see all the different ornaments artists made and then when the project was finished I found mine on the top of one of the trees. I can't deny that I squeed and giggled over it, haha

Give Core a Chance

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 4, 2015, 8:22 PM
Well, like usual, DA has made a change and everybody is furious about it.

I'm pretty open to change, though I admit I was slightly put off by this at first. My main complaint is that this came with no warning, though I expect people would have reacted the same either way and this seemed like an attempt to, figuratively speaking, rip off the band-aid and get it over with.

I can't say I like the obnoxious orange color because it clashes in an otherwise harmonious design, nor do I like the term "core" because I feel it (unintentionally) conveys the wrong message. But really, think about it, was "premium" any better? It's still a label that elevates paying members.

But the title and the colors seem to take a back seat to a larger complaint - the price increase, which has been exaggerated to have doubled or even tripled. I was irritated by this at first as well, but the fact is that the prices haven't gone up that much. The original price of a yearly membership was $29.95 WITH a 50% discount applied. That means the real price was $59.99, $10 above what the "new" 12 month membership costs.

You could argue that since the discount was always applied that it never really cost $59.99, but look at it this way as well - I've been a paying member for over 10 years now and it has always cost $29.95. That's ten years without adjusting for inflation. Look at the difference 10 years made on these common items.

DeviantART is a business. They have a headquarters, massive servers, countless staff members and all the costs of running that business. If they don't make money, we don't have a website to utilize. Artists, above most, should know that a service has monetary value.

DeviantART accounts are free. There's no invite code or other required method for entry. You have unlimited image uploads and unlimited bandwidth. You get 2GB of, where you can store or hide things. You get free access to a prints service where you can earn money and it costs you nothing. You can even customize your page to an extent, which a lot of sites don't allow at all for free accounts. Not to mention the accessibility and large community that comes with just being on DA.

Yes, paid membership comes with better perks in the customizing department, which can help you sell yourself better, but free accounts are still completely usable. And if you use DA as a large source of your income, is it really that bad to pay a little extra to help support a service that helps you? Or rather, is the service they offer worth the money? Look at it objectively and imagine you never knew there was a price increase - would what you get from it still be worth the price tag?

If not, it's your prerogative to change to another website, one that better suits your needs and/or your budget. Or to simply be content with a free account without pretty things all over your front page.

I just feel that DA offers a pretty good service even for free accounts and all of the anger and hate is misplaced.

Weaver, Chime, etc for Trade

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 29, 2015, 4:09 PM
I still love my babies, but I have a light brown toy weaver now so Nhia feels sort of redundant. The others don't get much love and I always need more sparkledoes in my life.

Nhia01 by celesse
She's a MYO design by me and comes with a few pieces of art. Her Toyhouse page is here.

Lucky chime:
Lucky Chime - Starsong by celesse
MYO design by me. Comes with this and a pixel icon.

Jolle Raptor:
Jr S Eeh 1 6 By Simonetry-d8758dn by celesse
No extra art.

4 By Homuah-d814fdw by celesse
Design by Homuah, no extra art.

:star: I'm also willing to add art to any trade to pad the offer if necessary. Willing to negotiate on the type of art and how much.

I'm mainly interested in minkin, but I'd also look at:
- Weavers
- Mantafae (high priority)
- Scarfox by Kawiku (I need one of these omg)
- Possibly flower critters
- Possibly fishthings
- Possibly lantern dragons
- Possibly fumis
- Stuff from my wishlist folder (but it's mostly minkin) -…

Or babs, as unlikely as that is.

You can comment here or note me, either is fine.

Minkin for Minkin (TRADED)

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 25, 2015, 2:46 PM
Crackle has been traded, thank you to everybody for your interest <3

It makes me sad to do this, but Crackle is the hardest for me to connect to. I still love her design to pieces, but I think at this point I would rather have another design/character I can have a closer emotional bond with.

I am only looking for other minkin.

I'll look at any kind, there are no restrictions. I will note that Crackle has a rare trait (tail) so I would prefer to get a rare trait in return, but it's not required if I really love the design. Otherwise you might have to sweeten the pot somehow.

She comes with several pieces of artwork and can be returned to her original tail design if desired.

Minkin - Crackle (Deceased) by celesse New Years Minkin [Closed] by SA1B0T

I am going to be so picky. If I don't find a design I am absolutely head over heels for I will be keeping her.

Please also give me some time to respond to any offers, I want to carefully consider each before accepting or declining.

You can comment here or note me if you prefer, either is fine.

(PS I really want this minkin so if there's any way you can get him I would trade Crackle for him)

Vacation Mode

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 16, 2015, 6:36 PM
Going out of town for a week starting tomorrow, so I probably won't be around too much until after the 24th. I'll finish any commissions/owed art as soon as I get back!

Help the little shrimp!

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 3, 2015, 9:37 PM
My friend landlotl is auctioning an adopt to help a poor little shrimp. I feel a lot of sympathy for the itty bitty baby so time for a signal boost!

Mint Chip - SAVE THE SHRIMP! (CLOSED) by landlotl

I redesigned one of her older landlotls for the shrimpy, please check it out! ;O;

Help getting UK MLP toy

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 11, 2015, 9:14 PM
Update: I got her off eBay (finally)! Thanks for all your help ^O^

Getting desperate here. There's a My Little Pony toy that's being sold in the UK and possibly Australia too that I really want and I don't think it's ever coming to the US.

I can't find it for purchase online except an Amazon listing with an inflated price and an ambiguous Toys R listing that may or may not give me the right one. It's not even on eBay!

Is there anyone in the UK (or Australia?) that would be willing to visit a few Toys R Us stores to try to find the toy for me? Then ship it to me?

I'll of course pay for the toy and shipping, or if you'd rather have some kind of art I can do that too. She shouldn't cost more than £14.99 or thereabouts.

I'm looking for Fashion Style Daisy Dreams:

Adopts Wishlist

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 29, 2015, 7:31 PM
Reposting this because the last one is a mess now ^^;

Throwing this out there in case anyone is interested in trading for what I can offer.

:bulletgreen: Adopts currently available for trade - N/A
:bulletgreen: Money
:bulletgreen: Design services (I can design your MYO for you)
:bulletgreen: Art. Illustrations, pixel icons, animations, etc.

Or if there's something else I can do for you I'm open to hearing ideas.

Always looking for these:

:bulletgreen: Minkin

Also interested in:

:bulletgreen: Weavers
:bulletgreen: Diplings
:bulletgreen: Mantibabs
:bulletgreen: Flower critters

Possibly intersted in but will be really picky:

:bulletgreen: Sushi dogs/cats
:bulletgreen: Waterdogs
:bulletgreen: Jolle Raptors

:bulletgreen: I would consider MYO slots for any of these as well.

:bulletgreen: Specific design wishlist -…

:bulletred: Not really open to anything else. Will probably hide comments after we're done to keep things clean.

:bulletred: Not interested in one-off designs, would prefer established species. No humanoids please.

Just FYI I don't want standard animals with unusual markings or extra features, like a cat with unnatural colors or a wolf with wings. No gijinkas or kemonomimis either. I can do that on my own. I'm looking for the original species listed above.

Seeking Minkin! Offering money + art

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 22, 2014, 8:40 PM
What the hell, this worked once so I'm trying again. I really need more sparkle babies in my life.

Looking for minkin! Official or MYOs are fine, I'll look at any you got. There are a few on my wishlist here that I would be pleased as punch to get, but aren't required.

I can offer money (yes, even if you paid a lot in auction) and/or art (see below.)

Edit: I can also buy a design to trade for your minkin! So if you see an adopt go up for sale/auction, you can let me know and I will try to get it for you so we can trade.

For the art I can do a lot of different styles including:

-Spot illos
-Illustrations with multiple characters and/or backgrounds
-Pixel art/icons
-MYO designs (for MYO slots you own)

So we can negotiate on what and how much depending on the value of the design.

Examples (these aren't charas for trade, they're examples of the art!):

Weaver - Nhia by celesse Reluctant - Unwanted Apprentice by celesse Reluctant - Potion Tester by celesse Neapolitan Sushi Dogs by celesse Little Pixel Minkin by celesse Bounce Bounce Shakka Shakka by celesse Weaver Ref - Rajiv by celesse Lucky Chime - Starsong by celesse

Only looking for minkin right now! Please don't offer anything else unless you have something specifically on my wishlist to bribe me with.

You can comment here or note me if you'd rather speak in private <3

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 13, 2014, 6:36 PM
I keep forgetting to mention I have a Toyhouse account now (thanks YuriStorm!!)

I've tried hard to find any existing Toyhouse accounts for the artists of some of my characters' art, but if you're on there and I don't have you credited just let me know!

PS I have no invite codes at all, sorry. I'm just a lowly peon account.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty stoked about that new little star next to my name.

Notes and Formspring

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 10, 2013, 3:21 PM
Um, this is a bit awkward, but I kind of had a little break down last night and deleted all of the notes in my inbox. A lot of them were unanswered.

I've been insanely busy lately and really stressed out, and 15+ pages of unanswered notes continuously building up just kind of overwhelmed me. The only thing I could think to do was make it go away.

I just want to apologize to anyone that was waiting on a response from me. If you would still like an answer, please send the note again, but please keep these things in mind:

- I am not available for commissions. I won't give prices for the future either.

- I do not take requests

- I cannot take on new projects now, such as illustrating your comic or designing logos

- I do not have time to answer interview questions for your school project (I'm sorry!)

- Please don't ask me how I get products made. Use Google. Research. That's what I do.

- Merchandise/store/order questions should be made through the website

- You may cosplay any of my characters (including Strays or GaMERCaT)

- You may draw fan art of them as well (and link me to them!)

- You may get tattoos of my art (this one still surprises me!)

I think that covers most of the questions I get via notes. If you still need an answer for something go ahead and send me a new note.

Also, in order to funnel the silly/curious but ultimately trivial questions I get away from my notes, I went and revived my old unused Formspring account.

Please feel free to ask me anything nonessential there, including stuff about my webcomics or original characters, and I'll get to it when I have free time. That should cut down on the stress of too many notes :)

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 3, 2013, 8:14 PM
Wow, look at all the birthday wishes!! Thank you so much, everybody! ^o^ It was really fun going through all of the posts and seeing the creative ways you guys can convey the message.

There are a few too many for me to go through and personally say thank you to all of them, so I'm doing one big THANK YOU ILU SO MUCH post!! <3 <3 <3

And a big thank you to those of you that sent points or llamas, too!! <3 <3

Strays, GaMERCaT Back Up

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 26, 2013, 2:17 AM
Good news, Strays and GaMERCaT are back up! If they still aren't working for you, please clear your cache and try again.

If that doesn't work, please give it a day or two. It may take a while for the changes to propagate across the internet.

Original Post 1/26/13---

Just FYI, the Strays and GaMERCaT websites are down at the moment. Our host disabled them because they were using too much CPU and destabilizing the shared server. The downside of using Wordpress to automate everything, I suppose.

I'm working on getting back my access to them so I can try to reduce the usage, but customer support is being really slow to respond. The sites will hopefully be back up and running very soon.

In the mean time you can view this week's Strays update over at the Facebook page -

Am I the only one that actually likes the new thumbnails? ^^; I used to miss a lot of great art because the thumbnail didn't appear interesting, but with the larger thumbs I can see the content a lot easier. I also love that it crops exceptionally tall/wide images to fit into a decent thumbnail instead of a 1 pixel tall/wide one.

And the alignment system is great. People keep saying it looks cluttered, but I think it's a clean look that uses the space more efficiently. The only issue I have is the lighter border/background that appears on odd sized images or transparent gifs/pngs. I think a better solution could be found for that, but I can't offer a suggestion at the moment.

I think people just need a chance to adjust to it. They sure do hate change.

Also I missed my dA anniversary again, dang it! I always think it's in April for some reason. I can't believe I've been on this site for 10 years! Wow!
